The Magic Wand

The iphone is a modern technological marvel and with the cool and useful iphone apps it becomes an out of the world gizmo. It is just like a magic wand, but blind. The term magic justifies its claim. The iphone apps have just
made it like a magic wand.It can absolutely do anything. In a recent article I read about the 12 future applications of the iphone. It included physical networking where, in future if you happened to go to say a coffee shop and you switched on the iphone,if a person in your friend list is nearby, it'll notify you. Moreover this could be used in searching your peers.(if you have gone to watch a match in a stadium or somewhere else). The iphone SDK has been a good news for developers but with a few strings attached .

Why is it Blind

The magic wand, the iphone can help create magic, but it is blind. You must be wondering that why it is blind. The fact that a blind man cannot see is same with the iphone. It cannot see, hence cannot locate itself. It lacks a GPS. To give it a stick to walk, a faux GPS application has been developed. It works by getting information of location from nearby cellular towers and wifi access points. Some people have GPS devices and these GPS devices send the data to the local network(peer to peer) and this is used to get the location info. The accuracy of this app is of 100 feet. It is commendable that a blind gadget can locate itself. But what if there is no peer to send the GPS info. This will make the app helpless. The Nokia's 6110 navigator is a phone that provides GPS with navigation which costs $100(approx) less than the iphone.Hence we still lack a clear winner.

The Magic makes it best

The iphone may not have a GPS but the magic and the personality of the
iphone is such that it still attracts most of us.The huge screen, the out of
the world apps and the "apple" still make it leader in the gizmo zone.
